After a day travelling throughout the desert, I thought I hadn't kept my fluids up as I drove into the petrol station at Erldunda as I could have sworn I'd just seen a Silver Gull. Erldunda is about half way between Alice Springs (200 kms) and Uluru (240 kms), but 1000 kms north of Port Augusta, the nearest seaside place. I grabbed the camera and snapped off a few shots, just in case I wasn't dreaming. As I started to fill the car with fuel, a coach reversed and I lost sight of the Silver Gull. As I paid for the fuel, the attendant said that there was indeed a silver gull and it had arrived the day before, which had been windy, but not too windy. I hung around for a bit longer and finally sighted the gull again. One of the locals joked there would be a "God-tide" soon, way bigger than a king-tide, and the gull will be ready for it. Here are some photos:

WOW!
ReplyDeleteAlways a pleasure to discover your birds!
Amazing 'cockies'! I love to see the Major Mitchells and their gorgeous crest and the Redtails' display!
The Zebra finches are so cute, must be pore difficult to get close to those... unless you are in a hide?
Great stuff!
