After a day travelling throughout the desert, I thought I hadn't kept my fluids up as I drove into the petrol station at Erldunda as I could have sworn I'd just seen a Silver Gull. Erldunda is about half way between Alice Springs (200 kms) and Uluru (240 kms), but 1000 kms north of Port Augusta, the nearest seaside place. I grabbed the camera and snapped off a few shots, just in case I wasn't dreaming. As I started to fill the car with fuel, a coach reversed and I lost sight of the Silver Gull. As I paid for the fuel, the attendant said that there was indeed a silver gull and it had arrived the day before, which had been windy, but not too windy. I hung around for a bit longer and finally sighted the gull again. One of the locals joked there would be a "God-tide" soon, way bigger than a king-tide, and the gull will be ready for it.
