A few bird photos from around Lajamanu

Not much to write here, other than there is water in Hooker Creek, the local creek at Lajamanu, which means there are lots of birds around. Here is a sample from the last couple of days.

Backyard Bird list reaches 48

In the last couple of days, I've had two new honeyeaters to add to the backyard bird list - the Grey-headed Honeyeater and the Singing Honeyeater. It has been bedlum when the sprinkler gets turned on. Despite having two bird baths and a pond, the sprinkler seems to send the birds a bit strange, and sitting in the lemon tree getting a "shower" seems to be the preferred method of cooling down. As the weather warms further, and without any rain, I would thinkthe backyard list will increase even more before the end of the year.

Here are a few recent shots from the backyard:

Birds and Captions - starting with a Zebra Finch "Sometimes I could just shed a tear, a big tear"

While going through some photos I kept getting particular captions in my head so thought I'd share some starting with the Zebra Finch:

Zebra Finch
"Sometimes I could just shed a tear, a big tear"

"When I grow up, I want to be a walrus"
"but then again, I'm too tired to be one now"

"Taxi!"

Willie Wagtail
"When I grow up, I'm going to be a Rooster just like my shadow!"

Singing Honeyeater
"Ewww! I hate untreated water!"

Rufous Songlark
"If I just put my beak in ...."

"Went to the hairdresser, go a shampoo and condition and a new gel style. What do you think?"

Diamond Dove
"Safety!" (this one is for my kids)

Brown Honeyeater
"I am the Dancing Queen...."

Budgerigar
"Upon Reflection ... this way?"

Brown Honeyeater, Zebra Finch, Whistling Kite and a Dingo

I am currently at Papunya, NT, and headed out to one of my favourite birding/photography spots late this afternoon. I attempted to get a bit closer to the action and there were a few birds who seemed to be confident I meant them no harm. One of the most delightful ones was a pair of Brown Honeyeaters, who sat on and hopped around the dead bush in the water. Some lovely opportunities through the lens.
