My work this week is at Lajamanu, and I drove along the Buchanan Highway between Dunmarra and Top Springs in the NT. I was surprised by the lack of birds when I drove this road a few weeks ago, but yesterday there were birds everywhere. I stopped at the side of the road as I had seen something drop from the top of a branch into the undergrowth. I decided to have a quick stop and look around. I came across a driveway heading towards a fenced area and walked down towards the fence. There were bird noises everywhere, mainly high in the trees. After standing and listening for a while, I could hear a high pitched bird. I was looking everywhere to work out where it had come from and then the Black-tailed Treecreeper popped out onto the side of a tree a little way off and began hopping in a spiral as they seem to do. The photos aren't fantastic as the light was poor and it was a fair way off, but they do show all the right markings for identification. This is the first time I've seen this particular bird:
It then flew off onto a tree further away to give me the back view!
Happy Birding!
