Fairy Martin Mud-fun, Budgerigars, Birds of Prey and Major Mitchell Cockatoo along Namatjira Drive

Namatjira Drive is the road out to Hermannsberg from Alice Springs. It starts at the junction with the Glen Helen Road. It had rained a lot in the morning and at the junction I saw some Fairy Martins collecting mud, I presume for nests.

I also saw a lot of Budgerigars, although I could hear even more somewhere in the grasses on the side of the road. I took this couple about 20 kms east of Hermannsberg in a floodway.

Also saw a Brown Falcon and a Black Kite (separately) on the side of the road.

There were quite a number of different parrots and cockatoos, cockatiels etc throughout the drive, but the Major Mitchell Cockatoo did that thing with its crest as it landed, always wanted this sort of photo, just a pity I was so far away.

  1. So much adventure. Love the martins in the mud, not to mention a budgie in the wild. Love the Majors as well. Super photographs of all of them. Congratulations.
