Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) to Kaltukatjara (Docker River)

Went for a leisurely drive for work down to Docker River yesterday. We left Yulara at about 6:30 am and we were just too early for the sunrise over Uluru or Kata Tjuta, however, there were some very beautiful sights to be had further along the road. The road was pretty good, and most of the below photos were taken as the car reached speeds of a bit over 100 kph (I was the passenger!)

Red dirt, a slowly lightening sky, straw-coloured grass and healthy, well-watered trees and shrubs.

Some of the few birds seen - a group of Major Mitchell Cockatoos

A constant source of concern and conversation in the car, these were some of the only camels we saw, some tourists had collected a camel on the other side of Yulara earlier this week and they are still in serious condition, we saw the dead camel (we think it was that one) on the side of the road, rather bloated - no gratuitous pics here.

Stunning desert oaks lined the road closer to Kaltukatjara, with the range in the background that continued on beyond the community location.

Some Torresian Crows and the prolific grasses and small mounds that line a lot of the drive.

As a bird-watching experience, this wasn't a prolific experience, but as a natural landscape observation, the trip was just stunning.
