There are some times I wonder about the effect my bird-watching has on my kids. Today was one such occasion. As I was driving my daughter home from soccer training, she yelled that I just had to stop the car to look at something she could see. I looked ahead and a cyclist was heading towards us on the verge of the road, behind I had a truck bearing down fast, and in the middle was an increasingly excited (read yelling) daughter. I made a split decision to go down the embankment a bit and avoid the cyclist, not worrying about the truck too much. Finally my daughter was able to splutter something about a Wedgy in the tree. I grabbed the camera and got out, apologising to the cyclist on the way to the front of the car, and snapped off a number of shots, a couple of which are below:
The cyclist then yelled out to me whether or not I had noticed "the other one?" I hoped like hell he was talking about birds, not cyclists, as I had only noticed one cyclist. thankfully, yes, he was pointing into a tree further down and to my relief, I could see a second Wedgy, not a second cyclist up the tree!:
A lovely end to the day.
